Cancer Survivor Stories?
My sister was recently diagnosed with a Stage IV glioblastoma (brain tumor). She had surgery to remove the 1/2 pound tumor, but the doctor was unable to remove it all (he said he got approximately 90 percent). She is also 8 months pregnant. We are all heartbroken and would like to hear some encouraging stories, if you have any. They are going to deliver the baby within the next couple of weeks, so she can begin radiation and chemotherapy. We have all been inundated with negative news and would really like to hear some encouraging stories.
Thanks so much.

Check out the link. It is the American Brain Tumor Association (abta) website. There is a list of stories from brain tumor survivors and from people who have lost loved ones.
I am a brain tumor survivor (meningioma). I had surgery 3-1/2 years ago and I was lucky because they were able to remove all the tumor. I didn’t need rehab after surgery, and I was able to return to work.
I hope for the very best for your sister, her baby and your family.
How often do you get Panic Attacks- Describe attack- And Symptoms Between attacks (not just fear)?
As a person who has to deal with Panic Attacks my symptoms don’t occur when I’m not having an attack. When I do my heart races, I get a really bad headache and I start to shake. I don’t’ really have any fear, I just feel like my body’s out of control. This feeling can last about five or ten minutes. It feels a whole lot longer though.
what is the best way to overcome panic and anxiety?
Thanks
Thanks everyone, been having a hard time with anixety and panic, and it has been a life line having people to share it with. Your answers make a difference to me even though we are prob thousands of miles a way! thanks a lot!
Face what makes you axious and panic. Start small if it helps and build up until you feel comfortable enough to do anything. Keep doing small things that make you anxious until you feel ok, then do something more and keep doing it.
Edit: I suggest trying to beat anxiety without medication fi you can. It’s better in the long run. Relaxing is hard, but you have nothing to worry about really and the more you do things the more relaxed you will become
Positive thinking and doing something about it is the key to overcoming it
Is there any remedy or healing for Social Anxiety Disorder?
Is there any remedy or healing for Social Anxiety Disorder? Can it be completely cured? The symptoms of social anxiety disorder are as follows…
-fear doing or saying something embarrassing in front of other people.
-Worry about making a mistake or being judged by others.
-Avoid speaking to others.
-Fear meeting new people.
-Blush, sweat, tremble, or feel nauseous before and when meeting new people.
-Avoid social situations and giving speeches.
Although social anxiety disorder generally requires help from a medical expert or qualified psychotherapist, you can try some self-help techniques to handle situations likely to trigger social anxiety disorder symptoms.
First, assess your fears to identify what situations cause the most anxiety. Apply these techniques to those situations. Practicing these techniques regularly can help you manage or reduce your anxiety. You may need to begin with small steps in situations that aren’t overwhelming.
These techniques include:
Eating with a close relative, friend or acquaintance in a public setting.
Making eye contact and returning greetings from others, or being the first to say hello.
Preparing for conversation. For instance, read the newspaper to identify an interesting story you can talk about.
Giving someone a compliment.
Focusing on personal qualities you like about yourself.
Showing an interest in others. Ask about their homes, children, grandchildren, hobbies or travels, for instance.
Asking a retail clerk to help you find an item.
Getting directions from a stranger.
In addition, be sure to keep your medical or therapy appointments, take medications as directed, and talk to your doctor about any changes in your condition.
Coping and support
Coping with social anxiety disorder can be challenging. Having social anxiety disorder can make it difficult for you to go to work or school, to interact with other people, or even to visit the doctor. But maintaining connections and building relationships are key ways to help cope with any mental disorder.
Over time, treatment can help you feel more comfortable, relaxed and confident in the presence of others. In the meantime, don’t use alcohol or illicit drugs to try to get through an event or situation that makes you anxious.
Some positive coping methods include:
Banishing negative thoughts about yourself
Practicing relaxation exercises
Adopting stress management techniques
Reaching out to people you do feel comfortable around
Joining a support group
Engaging in pleasurable activities, such as exercise or hobbies, when you feel anxious
Getting enough sleep
Eating a well-balanced diet
Setting realistic goals
As difficult or painful as it may seem initially, don’t avoid situations that trigger your symptoms. By regularly facing these kinds of situations, you’ll continue to build and reinforce your coping skills.
Over time, doing this can help control your symptoms and prevent a relapse of your condition. Remind yourself that you can get through anxious moments, that your anxiety is short-lived, and that the negative consequences you worry about so much rarely come to pass.
What seems to be the most successful anxiety medicine??
I know it varies from person to person, but what seems to be the most successful for anxiety? I’ve been taking 20mg of Lexapro for anxiety and depression for about 2 years now, and it really helped my depression…. but now my anxiety is through the roof! I’m not sleeping at night and I’ve NEVER had problems sleeping. My doctor sucks and gave me Effexor and I’ve read some really horrible things about it and it seems to me that’s more anti-depression related. I’ve been depressed plenty of times in my life, and I really feel like it’s the anxiety. I think Lexapro did the job pulling me through the depression and I feel okay in that aspect. My thoughts fly through my head 90 miles per hour and I shake almost constantly, I get short of breath, I freak out about petty things, and all in all I just CAN’T calm down and relax. It’s kind of embarrassing… Any suggestions on an anxiety medicine that seem to work really well??
I have taken Ativan, Lithium, Xanax and Klonapin for anxiety.
If your anxiety is more of a random occurance rather than constant, I would recommend Xanax for a quick fix.
If you suffer from more of a constant anxiety, such as social anxiety disorder, I would suggest Klonapin, which is also prescribed for sleep disorders. In my opinion, it doesn’t work as fast as Xanax, but then it does stay in your system for quite a bit longer than Xanax. I also noticed that with Xanax, the dosage tends to need to be raised every so often, cause your body builds up a tolerance. I never noticed that with Klonapin. I took the same dose for 2 years.
Another thing to work on, try to figure out what your anxiety triggers are. Just knowing them is quite helpful in dealing with an attack.
